Manchester United Confirm New Signing Matej Kovar On Deadline Day

Manchester United have completed the signing of Czech Republic goalkeeper Matej Kovar from FC Slovacko - subject to international clearance.

MEN Sport understands that the 17-year-old spent a week training with the club's academy in November after being spotted by club scouts.

Kovar, who was previously on trial at West Ham, trained alongside Tahith Chong and company under the watchful eye of academy boss Kieran McKenna.

During his time at Carrington, he met both Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and even took in a tour of Old Trafford.

The teenager, who speaks English, has already made two appearances for Czech Republic's under-18s side after making a name for himself at Slovacko for being comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Kovar's signing is the latest addition to the club's academy following a high-profile revamp under academy chief Nicky Butt.

Arnau Puigmal, Largie Ramazani and Millen Baars are just some of the names who have been snapped up in the last 12 months.

Aside from Kovar's arrival, it is set to be a quiet deadline day at United.

Mourinho, traditionally, does not do business in the mid-season window and confirmed last week that Alexis Sanchez would be United's only first-team addition in January.

"Tuanzebe goes on loan, nobody is leaving, nobody is coming. Our transfer market in the summer will be short," he said.
