2018 Budget Will Be Ready Before The End of 2017- Presidency

Following the criticism which trailed the late passage and signing of the 2017 budget, the Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the 2018 budget will be passed before the end of 2017.

A statement issued by the Presidency and made available by our correspondent stated that an agreement had been reached between the Executive and the National Assembly to return the Government to a January to December calendar with effect from the 2018 budget.

Consequently, the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo stated the commitment of the Executive to ensure that the 2018 budget is submitted to the National Assembly by October 2017.

The leadership of the National Assembly has also resolved that the legislature will ensure prompt consideration and passage of the budget before the end of 2017.

The statement also clarified that the signing of the Budget by the Executive, was delayed because of disagreements regarding some alterations the National Assembly made to the submitted document which include reduced proposed budgets for a number of critical infrastructure projects such as the standard gauge railway projects, the Mambilla Power Project, the Second Niger Bridge, the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway etc and the application of the the difference to fund some new projects introduced by the legislators.

However, the differences have been resolved following four weeks of painstaking engagement between the Executive and Legislature hence the signing of the budget.
